Hong Kong is VERY serious about schooling...

Here's a clipping from the SCMP last Friday....

A mother has been sent for psychiatric treatment after not sending her daughter to school for two years. Apparently she's delusional as she thought her daughter was G&T and refused to accept her daughter's place at an inferior school. Better be careful what I say in the future about Prince and Princess PTT!

In this weeks news....

This week, in the free English speaking daily newspaper, there was an article about a visitor overstaying his Visa (but you quickly found out he was locked in a flat?!) and illegally working as a male prostitute.

Anyway, I've included it in this week's round up as I love the line in the second last paragraph that states that the prosecution used the fact that the only reason Parker (the prostitute) was able to shout and save himself was the Wan (his Jailer) gave him something to eat?! Should Wan have done this? How long had it been since Parker ate? It says he was paid yet he was locked up?! So many questions that we'll never know the answer to...

I'll leave you to have a ponder...

My question is why?

My friend's dear helper picks us up a copy of the free English language newspaper and drops it at our door every morning. How's that for lovely? Some of the articles make me laugh... as you can see below, South Korean and Russian scientists are going to 'recreate' a woolly mammoth. Apparently the embryos will be planted in some poor unsuspecting Elephant's wombs. Wonder what they plan to do with the herd if it works?

I'll let you ponder over this one and make up your own opinion...

I for one am not a fan...

In today's cultural differences 101 class we will be covering...

Just when I convince myself that Hong Kong is 'just like home' something in the local paper always makes me remember that we are not raising Prince and Princess PTT in Australia.

This was in The Standard (the free English speaking daily newspaper) last week. Check out the last paragraph... I read that a six your old student was the suspected victim of child abuse and thought, "isn't it wonderful that the school picked this up". It's only when you read to the end of the article that you realise the school took so long to report the abuse as previous bruises on the child's body were excused as the result of 'parental discipline' !? "Toto we're not in Kansas anymore"...

The winner of today's superfluous baby product goes to...

I do love a superfluous baby product - don't you?

Here's today's little gem....

Geez I wish I had one of these in the delicate few weeks when Prince and Princess PTT could not yet walk, but as I was not yet through the looking glass parenting wise, I feared they might try to suddenly walk independently and bolt away from me simultaneously... NOT!

Who buys this stuff?

Activity for future overseas guests?

I had a little giggle when I read The Standard (Hong Kong's free daily English speaking newspaper) last week. Up until recently and unbeknownst to the average holiday maker, you could go to Hong Kong's YWCA hotels and take advantage of their 'birth packages'. You could even get add-on services such as a HK$100 a day wet nurse (currently a little over $10 Australian dollars).

The hilarious part is that we at PTT's Hong Kong Headquarters always farm out our overseas guests to the YWCA hotels as we live in a postage stamp sized abode and the YWCA Hotels are in excellent locations, clean and very well priced for Hong Kong.

Unfortunately for our future guests the YWCA has stopped the service so anyone requiring a wet nurse for future trips will have to look elsewhere....
